REAL FOOD
OR NOTHING
A real problem,
solved at home.
Bud was never an easy eater — natural frozen food, with everything that comes with it, never really fit into our daily life. The freezer, the thawing, the constant planning — I just didn't have the routine for it, and neither did Bud.
In 2021, something different landed in my hands: real food, no artificial preservatives, no freezer required. I put it in front of Bud, and he didn't leave a single bite. In the weeks that followed, the difference showed — his coat, his energy, his mood. Mealtime became the best part of his day.
Twelve years in, still surprised.
More than twelve years in the pet industry — the products, the trends, what actually works versus what's just packaging promises. I'd seen a lot. But nothing like this. I studied the process, visited the factory in Germany, and when it was time to bring it to Canada, I knew exactly where to look.
The idea for canada.
My connection to Canada goes back over five years — visiting Gustavo, my business partner, who'd already built a life in Calgary. Both of us Brazilian, both drawn to the cold, we felt at home here from the start.
Gustavo trained as a chef at Le Cordon Bleu and ran a restaurant in Brazil before moving to Canada. After the kitchen, he sold premium proteins door to door — beef, fish, chicken — and walked into hundreds of Canadian homes. Dog owners kept telling him the same thing: they wanted better food for their dogs, but the freezer was always in the way. Gustavo has lived that gap firsthand — he's had his own companion, Zé, for thirteen years, ever since Zé crossed the Atlantic with him.
Between his conversations and my years in the industry, we saw an opening the market didn't have yet — and the two of us had exactly what it would take to build it.
